Kansas Democrats File for More House and Senate Seats than in any Recent Election Cycle

TOPEKA –– With the candidate filing deadline ending on Monday, Kansas Democrats have surpassed recent candidate filing numbers in the State House, State Senate, and State Board of Education races.

Democrats filed in 92 of 125 State House seats, 34 of 40 State Senate seats, all 5 State Board of Education seats, and all 4 Congressional seats.

“As we worked with our House and Senate partners, as well as our county and congressional Democratic leaders, we’ve seen incredible enthusiasm from Democrats stepping up in their communities to run for office this year,” said Kansas Democratic Party Chair Jeanna Repass.

“We have momentum on our side as our candidates and Kansans across the state are ready to break the Republican supermajorities in the House and Senate. They know what’s at stake – expanding Medicaid, continuing to fully fund our public schools, access to reproductive care – and are ready to put in the work to bring more people-first representation to Topeka.”
