KANSAS DEMOCRATIC PARTY CALLS ON REPUBLICANS TO CONDEMN TRUMP’S EDUCATION CUTS

The Kansas Democratic Party calls on Kansas Republicans in the legislature to condemn the $43M cuts to Kansas education

The sudden cut of $43 million in education funding to Kansas schools will hurt our students, teachers, and essential educational and support programs. The Kansas Democratic Party calls on every Republican lawmaker in the State Legislature to join Governor Laura Kelly in pushing back on this disastrous and ill-timed cut to critical education funding just before school districts across the state prepare to welcome students back into the classroom.

Kansas public schools utilize this funding to support important components in education. This $43 million funding cut threatens STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education, after-school care, and programs that recruit and retain teachers. Rural students and students in vulnerable economic communities will be negatively impacted the most by the cuts and all Kansas students, teachers and school districts will feel the damaging impacts of this harmful administration.

“Any lawmaker who does not stand up and demand that these funds get released by the administration is complicit in undermining one of Kansas’s greatest assets – our children,” says Kansas Democratic Party Chair, Jeanna Repass. “We will make sure that Kansas families and voters hold them accountable for their lack of action against these cuts.”
