Ethan became executive director of the Kansas Democratic Party in August 2017. A Kansas native, he is a proud graduate of Garden City Community College, where he played baseball for the Broncbusters and was an Academic All-American. He went on to earn law and bachelor’s degrees from Washington University in St. Louis. In 2012, he served as the deputy voter protection director for President Barack Obama’s campaign in Wisconsin and played a critical role in the KDP’s 2014 election protection effort. Ethan was chief of staff in the International Trade Administration, an agency in the U.S. Department of Commerce, in addition to his efforts as a senior advisor to former Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker. Prior to his work in government, he practiced law for seven years at one of the country’s top law firms, focusing his pro bono practice on voting rights litigation.
Political & Data Director
Lauren started as Political and Data Director with the Kansas Democratic Party in February 2018. She got her start in politics as a KDP intern before being brought on as a field organizer for the 2010 Kansas Coordinated Campaign. She has since worked on municipal, state, and federal races in Kansas and spent two election cycles in Long Island, New York. More recently, Lauren served as campaign manager on Logan Heley’s successful 2017 Overland Park city council race. She also helped found the Johnson County Young Democrats, where she served as vice chair. She has also worked in the insurance industry. In addition to being a political junkie, Lauren enjoys reading, attempting to garden, and is a devotee of all things pop culture. She holds a degree in English from Kansas State University.
Brenna became finance director of the Kansas Democratic Party in May 2019. A native-born Kansan, Brenna grew up in Topeka and holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Kansas State University. She went on to receive an MPA from the University of Missouri – Kansas City. Brenna spent the last five years serving constituents and organizing field events for Sen. Claire McCaskill. Brenna currently sits on the board of and serves as the secretary for the Migrant Farmworkers Assistance Fund. When Brenna isn’t focusing on politics, she enjoys participating in a Documentary Club and spending time with her family and friends.
Josh became operations director in February 2019. He first joined the Kansas Democratic Party as finance director in April 2018. Born and raised in Hays, Kansas, he attended Fort Hays State University, where he received his bachelor’s degrees in political science and philosophy, studying law, ethics, and political theory. Josh went on to obtain his Master of Business Administration in finance from FHSU. Previously, he served as the interim Ellis County Treasurer and helped establish the FHSU Honors College as an administrative associate. Since 2016, he has worked for various Kansas House and Senate campaigns, helped establish the Ellis County Young Democrats chapter, and joined the KDP Fellowship program. Josh enjoys live music, literature, and political discussion.
Special Projects Director
Dan started as special projects director in May 2019. He joined the Kansas Democratic Party as director of operations and deputy finance director in September 2017. Prior to joining the KDP, he worked at the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation. In Lawrence, Dan helped start the Douglas County Young Democrats, where he served as treasurer. Before coming to Kansas, Dan was the director of operations for a Washington, D.C.-based startup, Quorum Analytics, which focused on legislative tracking. While in school, Dan was active in the advocacy space at the United Nations. There he represented a non-profit. Dan also interned in the U.N. Division for Sustainable Development. Dan received both an undergraduate degree in environmental engineering and a Master’s degree in environmental policy from Lehigh University. He will pursue an MBA at the University of Kansas.
Digital Media Director
Alex became director of digital media in January 2018. He first joined the Kansas Democratic Party as an intern in May 2017 before becoming a communications fellow that August. Alex managed communications and research operations for Adrienne Olejnik’s 2016 campaign for the Kansas House. Alex graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in mass communications with an emphasis in journalism and digital media, along with minors in music and political science. Raised in Manhattan, Alex is a news and political junkie, a freelance graphic designer, and a violinist.
