SCHMIDT RELIES ON MORE OUT-OF-STATE HELP FOR STRUGGLING CAMPAIGN WITH GLENN YOUNGKIN EVENT IN JOCO

Shawnee, KS – Today, Derek Schmidt will be joined by Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin for an event for his flailing campaign for Governor. This comes on the heels of Schmidt’s “unity rally” with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis earlier this week, and signals Schmidt’s struggles to gain support from actual Kansas voters.

“With two events with out-of-staters in one week, it’s clear Schmidt’s team lacks support from one crucial group: actual Kansas voters – including many Republicans,” said Emma O’Brien, spokesperson for the KDP. “Apparently neither Youngkin or DeSantis could be bothered to drive more than 30 minutes from MCI on their way in and out of Kansas. While Derek Schmidt campaigns with national, divisive figureheads, Governor Laura Kelly remains laser-focused on uniting Kansans, not dividing them, and winning over Kansas voters with her track record of working for Kansans no matter what political party they belong to.”

On Sunday, Schmidt held a campaign event with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, proving he’s incapable of rallying support for his campaign from actual Kansans and forced to try to win over his base as Republicans flock to support any candidate – including Governor Laura Kelly and lifelong Republican and current state Senator Dennis Pyle – over him. The Schmidt/DeSantis “unity rally” sparked a counter gathering of a hundred Kansans rallying against the hate and divisiveness these two politicians represent.

Earlier this week, a new poll from Emerson College Polling-The Hill found Governor Laura Kelly leading Derek Schmidt 45 to 43 percent, with Governor Kelly leading with Independent voters at 46 percent compared to Schmidt’s 30 percent.
