DEREK SCHMIDT CONTINUES KRIS KOBACH’S LEGACY OF COSTING TAXPAYERS MILLIONS
Topeka, KS – Much like Kris Kobach, Attorney General Derek Schmidt continues to politicize his job at the expense of Kansans. This time, Schmidt is costing Kansas taxpayers $1.9 million by settling a five-year long political legal battle that he continued to wage after it was initially started by Kobach.
The lawsuit was filed by Kobach in 2016 based on false claims of voter fraud and unconstitutional restrictions. After a U.S. District Court judge determined there was no evidence to support Kobach’s claims of widespread voter fraud, Schmidt prolonged the bogus legal fight and extended its costs, all at the loss of taxpayers.
This comes after a report last week showed Schmidt abused his office by sending his taxpayer-funded staff to a partisan political summit.
“Derek Schmidt is once again making Kansas taxpayers foot the bill for his political ambitions. Last week, Schmidt got caught sending taxpayer-funded staff to an out-of-state political summit, now we’re learning his decision to carry Kris Kobach’s water will cost taxpayers millions. Schmidt would only cost Kansans even more if he becomes governor.” — KDP Chairwoman Vicki Hiatt.
