SHOT/CHASER: RATHER THAN PRIORITIZE KANSAS’ COVID-19 RECOVERY, DEREK SCHMIDT FOCUSED ON GIVING WEALTHIEST KANSANS A TAX BREAK
Topeka, KS — It didn’t take long for Derek Schmidt to go back on his phony campaign promise. In fact, instead of prioritizing Kansas’s recovery from COVID-19, Schmidt is focused on lining the pockets of the wealthiest Kansans with the same money that would otherwise fund Kansas teachers, support small businesses, and help Kansans pay their utility bills.
SHOT: Schmidt says he wouldn’t bring back the Brownback era, says “The math has to work.”
CHASER: Schmidt signs letter to fund tax cuts with COVID stimulus money that will fund vaccinations, utility relief, school reopenings, and small businesses.
“Derek Schmidt’s priorities are loud and clear,” said KDP Chair Vicki Hiatt. “Instead of helping Governor Kelly keep Kansans safe from COVID-19, Schmidt is using the Brownback approach: take money from working families and public schools and give it to the wealthy. Hardworking Kansans deserve better.”
