KDP Statement in Solidarity Against Police Brutality, White Supremacy and Institutional Racism
Topeka, KS – The Kansas Democratic Party issued the following statement in solidarity against the recent acts of police brutality:
Last week, the nation witnessed the latest example of a tragic national reality when George Floyd was murdered by a law enforcement officer in Minneapolis. The KDP stands in solidarity with everyone fighting white supremacy, police brutality and the institutional racism that pervades our society. We stand with the communities demanding change.
Moments of crisis require leaders who listen, show empathy and acknowledge uncomfortable realities to heal. During the current moment, Donald Trump has failed all of us by shirking responsibility, inciting violence against protestors and promoting chaos. Furthermore, as we’ve seen in Kansas and across the country, Trump’s failed response to COVID-19 has had a disproportionate impact on black and brown communities. A legacy of discriminatory policies, inequality and pain has served as a prerequisite to what we see now: a violent, multidimensional public health crisis that preys unequally on those most vulnerable.
We heal through justice, progress and action.
