Kansas Democratic Party Launches New Digital Ad Campaign Highlighting Roger Marshall’s Radical Record
KDP Chair Vicki Hiatt released the following statement on Rep. Roger Marshall’s announcement that he is running for Kansas’ open U.S. Senate seat in 2020.
Topeka, KS – The Kansas Democratic Party announced a new digital ad campaign Saturday spotlighting Roger Marshall’s incredibly unpopular and disastrous record in the U.S. House. Titled “Roger Marshall in his own words,” the ad uses Marshall’s actual statements to remind voters in and outside Kansas’ First Congressional District about Marshall’s blatant disregard for working Kansans and his commitment to ripping health insurance from nearly 90,000 Kansans and eliminating pre-existing condition protections for more than 500,000 Kansans. The digital ad campaign will target voters statewide.
On the issue of health care alone, Marshall has proven himself unfit to represent the people of Kansas in the U.S Senate. Marshall has clashed with his own constituents when discussing and eventually voting for multiple devastating “health care” bills.
During one of many Republican attempts in 2017 to repeal the Affordable Care Act, Marshall said that, “[j]ust like Jesus said, ‘The poor will always be with us.’ There is a group of people that just don’t want health care and aren’t going to take care of themselves.” When asked by a constituent if he could promise if everyone in First Congressional District would not lose their health insurance, Marshall said he didn’t “really want to turn this into a ‘Me vs. You.'” When asked by a conservative radio host about the conspiracy theory that his angry constituents were actually being paid to protest his town halls, Marshall joked that he “was wondering if they would need some help with gas money to get home.”
“After beating Tim Huelskamp in the 2016 Republican primary, Roger Marshall has acted just like Huelskamp – he’s just not as provocative,” said KDP Vice Chair Vicki Hiatt. “This ad reminds Kansans that Marshall is just another out-of-touch politician fighting to gut our health care. Kansas Democrats are doing everything we can to put working Kansans first and build on our momentum we’ve seen since 2016.”
