72nd Governor of Virginia Terry McAuliffe to Keynote Demofest 2018
Topeka, KS – We’ve got some exciting news to share. Demofest is always a great event, but this is going to make it really special.
Former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe will be the keynote speaker at Demofest 2018, the Kansas Democratic Party’s bi-annual convention.
The event will take place August 24-26 at the Hyatt Regency Wichita. Gov. McAuliffe will speak at the banquet Saturday evening, August 25.
McAuliffe led Virginia as governor from 2014 to 2018, chaired the National Governors Association from 2016 to 2017, and was chair of the Democratic National Committee from 2001 to 2005.
The full schedule, plus ticket and hotel information, is available here. As usual, all events other than the luncheon and banquet are free to attend!
Here’s why we’re so excited to hear Gov. McAuliffe’s message:
As governor, McAuliffe laid the groundwork for the creation of hundreds of thousands of new private sector jobs, and more than $20 billion in new capital was invested in communities across the Commonwealth. During this time, Virginia’s unemployment rate dropped from 5.4% to 3.6%.
He also protected the rights of all Virginians, successfully vetoing a record 120 bills, thereby protecting women’s access to health care, Virginia’s world-class education system, and the environment.
Gov. McAuliffe was also a national leader in reforming our criminal justice system, restoring the voting rights of more than 173,000 Virginians — more than any other governor in U.S. history.
Other major accomplishments include a historic $1 billion investment in public education and higher education, ending veteran homelessness, and bipartisan legislation to reduce gun violence.
And that’s just scratching the surface.
