KANSAS-MISSOURI GOVERNORS SUMMIT

  • What’s happening?

Governor Laura Kelly and Missouri Governor Mike Parsons met on Tuesday to sign an agreement to end the use of economic incentives to lure companies across the state line. The practice has cost both states hundreds of millions of dollars. Gov. Kelly signed an executive order last week ending the practice while Gov. Parsons signed legislation in June.

TYSON PLANT FIRE

  • What’s happening?

Gov. Kelly and Tyson officials met with local leaders in Garden City on Wednesday following a fire at the Tyson Fresh Meats plant last weekend. The fire started last Friday night and burned for 12 hours. Commerce Secretary David Toland and Agriculture Secretary Mike Beam went to Finney County on Saturday to assess how the state could help with the situation. Tyson announced on Monday that the company will rebuild the plant in the same location and that employees would receive some compensation during the rebuilding process.
