KDP Calls on Sara Hart Weir to Address Weekend Mass Shootings
Sara Hart Weir silent on mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, ignores Kansans’ calls for action on gun violence.
Topeka, KS – The Kansas Democratic Party called on Sara Hart Weir to comment on the recent mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, and clarify whether she will continue to stand with Republicans ignoring near-unanimous calls for action on gun violence. Hart Weir’s remarks this week have exclusively concerned online donations and an appearance on Fox and Friends.
In the first 100 days of the 116th Congress, Rep. Sharice Davids helped the U.S. House pass common sense gun safety legislation to implement universal background checks and close loopholes in firearm purchases – solutions Americans resoundingly support. In the wake of last weekend’s mass shootings, Rep. Davids demanded Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell immediately open an emergency session to debate and vote on the House-passed gun safety bill.
Before launching her campaign, Hart Weir said that Republicans lost the House in the 2018 elections because they “couldn’t message” on the issue of health care and protecting pre-existing conditions – both of which the GOP relentlessly tried to rip away from countless working Kansans.
On health care, gun violence, and so many other important issues affecting Kansans, Sara Hart Weir is missing in action.
