Kansas Democrats elect new chair and officers at annual convention
Topeka, KS – The Kansas Democratic Party is excited to announce Vicki Hiatt as our party’s new chair. Hiatt, who served as vice chair since 2017, was elected by the party’s state committee on Saturday at Washington Days, the Kansas Democratic Party’s annual convention. Hiatt replaces John Gibson, who did not seek re-election.
Brandon Johnson, a member of Wichita’s City Council, was elected vice chair. George Hanna, chair of the Kansas Democratic Party’s Veterans and Military Families Caucus, was elected secretary. Gina Long, chair of the Kansas Democratic Party’s Resolutions Committee, was elected treasurer.
“I cannot wait to work with our new officers,” said KDP Executive Director Ethan Corson. “This talented and diverse group of leaders from across the state has the skills and energy to build on our successful 2018 election cycle and prepare us to win in 2020.”
“The Kansas Democratic Party owes a huge debt of gratitude to our outgoing officers. Chair John Gibson, Secretary Rehan Reza, and Treasurer Bill Hutton each played an integral role in helping us win our first statewide election since 2006 and our first congressional election since 2008. They left the party even stronger than they found it, and we thank them for their service.”
The chair, vice chair, secretary, and treasurer are each elected or re-elected every two years at Washington Days.
